Clément
As an architect, specialized in rehabilitation and wooden frame architecture projects, I bring unique expertise in the design of sustainable and environmentally friendly spaces.
I have had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, ranging from the design of individual houses to public and tertiary buildings. My approach is distinguished by a deep understanding of natural materials and a desire to merge traditional techniques with modern technologies. I strive to develop a unique signature, characterized by careful attention to detail and ecological sensitivity.
In addition to my professional practice, I share my passion for architecture as a teacher at Nantes School of Architecture. I devote part of my time to training the next generation of architects and raising their awareness of sustainability and responsible design issues.
My architecture is based on creating harmonious and sustainable spaces that meet both functional needs and aesthetically. I firmly believe in the importance of integrating buildings into their natural and urban environment, always seeking to establish a dialogue between architecture and landscape.
Optimization of Natural Light contributions:
In my projects, I always try to play with natural light by creating as many openings as possible. By strategically placing glass roofs and large windows, I create plays of light and shadow that evolve throughout the day, while creating perspectives towards the outside. My projects are designed in constant dialogue with their natural environment, integrating existing vegetation and taking advantage of the surrounding views.
Use of natural materials:
I favor the use of natural materials such as wood, stone and glass. These materials, chosen for their quality and durability, bring authenticity to spaces.
A Passion for Burnt Wood:
In my projects, I give a special place to burned wood, an ancestral and fascinating technique which transforms wood into a unique and durable material. This method, known as Shou Sugi Ban, originated in Japan and involves carbonizing the surface of wood to make it resistant to weather, insects and fire. Burning wood accelerates the aging of its surface. The carbon layer that forms acts as a protective shell, reinforcing the durability of the material. This process creates a rich, complex texture, with deep black tones that capture light in a unique way.
The beauty of this technique lies in the alliance between human intervention and nature. Each piece of burned wood is unique, revealing distinct patterns and textures that speak to its history and origin.
I integrate burned wood into various aspects of my architectural projects, whether for facades, cladding, or furniture.
Beyond its practical aspect, burned wood embodies a design philosophy that I admire: wabi-sabi. This Japanese aesthetic values imperfection, ephemerality and authenticity. Each piece of burned wood tells a story, capturing the essence of nature and the imprint of time.
